Although Hummingbird is an English speaking nursery, you will be surprised how quickly children start to speak and understand English. They really are sponges!

It’s completely understandable to be worried. As part of our registration package, we will send you some literature that explains the transition process – for yourself and for your child. We completely understand that this can be a difficult time, so we do all we can to help you both through this process.

“Although we understand that it’s difficult leaving the most precious things in your life, unfortunately for health and safety reasons we do not allow parents inside the classrooms. Often parents coming inside the classroom can also be stressful for the children as they begin by feeling this is a place for mum dad and me and then it can be quite a shock when you leave!“

Our babies learn a vast amount under the age of 1. They develop social and communication skills through one-to-one and small group activities with their teacher and friends. The teachers also encourage early physical development through tummy time and baby yoga sessions.

We offer FS1 so we can continue with your child’s development and give them that extra year to build on their resilience. That does not mean our FS1 class is a walk in the park; our FS1 teacher will be working closely with you to prepare your child for school and help you as a parent adjust to a ‘big school’ environment.

We are affiliated with Kings’ School Nad Al Sheba, Swiss International Scientific School, Oaktree Primary, Hartland International and Clarion School. They can help you with enrolment and do the school assessments at Hummingbird while your child is in a familiar environment.

Hummingbird offers flexibility with attendance options and our fee structure reflects this. You are more than welcome to come and visit us for more information.

I understand why you might be worried, but we have a flexible transitioning process. We recommend that your little one comes to the nursery for an hour on their first day. We can then build it up to 2 hours and so on. The staff are professionals in these circumstances and will be able to advise what is best for both you and your family.

We follow a British curriculum called the EYFS and group the children into age-appropriate classes and plan activities that keep learning fun, exciting, and developmentally appropriate. Our educational programme involves the following: • Communication and language development • Personal, social and emotional development • Literacy development • Mathematics • Understanding the world • Expressive arts and design • Physical development

As the children are familiar with our staff and routine, it is much easier for your child to adjust to our FS1 program. 3 years old is still very young and it can be difficult and overwhelming to adjust to a ‘big’ primary school environment.

FS1 at Hummingbird is a recognised class – we even host a graduation ceremony at the end of the school year. In terms of development, your child will be able to progress to FS2 or KG1 from Hummingbird Pre-school easily.
