At Hummingbird Nursery, we have always believed that strong partnerships between nursery and families are at the heart of a child’s development. During times of uncertainty, this connection becomes even more important.
As many of our children are currently taking part in distance learning due to the ongoing regional situation, our focus remains on ensuring that every child continues to feel supported, connected and secure in their learning journey. While the classroom may look different right now, the sense of community between home and nursery remains as strong as ever.
Learning Beyond the Nursery Walls
Young children learn best through play, exploration and meaningful interactions with the people around them. During this period of distance learning, our educators are working closely with families to bring these experiences into the home environment.
We provide a range of engaging activities that are simple, practical and designed to fit naturally into daily family life. From creative art projects and storytelling to sensory play, movement activities and early learning games, our goal is to make learning at home both enjoyable and manageable for families.
These activities are not only designed to support children’s development, but also to encourage moments of connection and joy between parents and their children.
Supporting Parents So They Can Support Their Children
At Hummingbird Nursery, we recognize that parents are navigating many responsibilities during this time. Balancing family life, work commitments, and supporting children’s learning can feel overwhelming.
This is why our approach goes beyond simply sharing activities. We aim to support parents themselves.
When parents feel supported, confident, and reassured, they are better able to support their children emotionally and developmentally. Our team is always available to listen, offer guidance and provide reassurance when families need it.
Whether it is advice on creating simple routines at home, ideas for managing children’s emotions during uncertain times or suggestions for playful learning activities, we are here to help families every step of the way.
Listening to Our Families
One of the most important parts of our home–nursery partnership is listening. Every family’s situation is unique, and we understand that flexibility and understanding are essential.
We regularly check in with parents, listen to their feedback and adapt our support to meet their needs. By understanding what works best for each family, we can tailor activities, communication and guidance to ensure that everyone feels included and supported.
Our goal is to make distance learning as positive and accessible as possible for all families in our community.
Keeping Our Community Strong
Even though we may be physically apart for now, the sense of belonging within the Hummingbird Nursery community continues to grow. Through ongoing communication, shared experiences and a commitment to supporting both children and parents, we are able to maintain the strong relationships that are so important during early childhood.
We are incredibly proud of the resilience shown by our children and the dedication of our families during this time. Together, we continue to create nurturing learning experiences that help children feel safe, valued and inspired to learn.
At Hummingbird Nursery, we remain committed to supporting our families in every way we can because when home and nursery work together, children thrive, no matter the circumstances.
